Bio

Steve Dalton grew up in Wolverhampton in the West Midlands of the United Kingdom. After studying in Electronic and Computer Engineering at University, he chose to take a break and work as a counselor/teacher at a Summer Camp in the United States. This is what opened his mind to the greater world and where he met a lovely environmental science teacher called Carla from the Gold Coast... who eventually led him to Australia!

After a few years working in IT around London, Steve decided to take the plunge and emigrate to Australia. Starting off in Sydney, he lived in a new suburb in the inner west of Sydney called Liberty Grove. He quickly became involved with body corporate politics, becoming treasurer and chairman of his strata committee. His block of units bordered on vacant land marked for development and time and time again the community came up against irresponsible development, corruption and shady practices. On a happier note, he helped to form a good community - starting a community website and getting involved in many other initiatives that fostered good community values.

Steve and Carla returned to the Gold Coast recently to start a family, and this July were happy to announce the birth of their son Jaron. Steve joined the Greens prior to the 2004 General Election - "The Greens are the only party that offer a real alternative to the selfish, short term policies of the traditional parties".

Steve is a strong believer in fostering good community through good communication and leveraging new dynamic technology such as the Internet. He is focused on local issues and feels strongly about provision of good Public Transport to pry people away from their much loved cars. He travels to Brisbane daily and has first hand experience of problems that commuters face on buses and trains in South East Queensland.

In his spare time he likes to tend to his veggie patch, and recently became interested in Organic gardening and permaculture. He also enjoys the outdoors and is a keen photographer.
